Huge number of people tested positive for coronavirus

A huge number of people have been tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday as the Ministry of Health announced registering 131 new cases within two days.

The Ministry in its Covid-19 situational report stated that  “131 new cases registered, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases ever confirmed in the country to 1,477.”

“This represents a 37% positive test rate (131 out of 350 total tests performed). The median age of the new cases is 35 years (range: 6 to 77 years).”

“350 new laboratory test results received from MRCG and NPHL, of these, 20 new tests returned in determinant and 131 new tests were positive for COVID-19,” the report disclosed.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health also announced one more coronavirus related death on Wednesday taking the total fatalities deaths in the country to 33.

“1 new COVID-19 related death recorded, bringing the total registered by the country to 33 – a crude case-fatality ratio of 2.2%,” the report added.

“A new guideline for quarantine, isolation and testing has been developed and validated to address the challenges brought about by the sudden surge in the number of COVID-19 cases,” it concluded.
