Scores of Gambians have called on the government to help and provide free face masks for vulnerable Gambians and non-Gambians as many people might not be financially strong to get one on their own.

The appeal comes after government announced that wearing of face mask is now compulsory in an effort to further curb the spread of coronavirus which is at increase side in the country.

According to some of these people the cost for a face mask has been hiked from 35 dalasis to 50 dalasis since the country started to see a spike in coronavirus cases, and obviously, many people would find it difficult to get themselves one due to poverty.

Speaking to The Voice in an exclusive interview, Musa Kinteh said “imposing this face mask wearing is very important because it is for our own protection, but if the government can help and assist people and give out free face masks to people, it will help.”

He added that he will be disturbed financially to get a personal face mask before Friday “because things are very hard for me nowadays.”

Sirreh Ceesay pleaded to the government to help people with some face masks on free cost. She as well called on private companies to also help and distribute to people.

She therefore urged people to respect and follow the protective guidelines saying anyone who have a face mask “should try to wear it to avoid contact and spread of the virus.”

Fabakery Marena as well shared similar sentiment like others.
