Staff Sergeant Calls on TRRC to Investigates December 30, 2014 Coup Attempt

Staff Sergeant Lamin Jarju, a personal convoy driver of the ex-President Yahya Jammeh for eight years, has urged the truth Commission (TRRC) to extend its investigation into the December 30, 2014 coup attempt in Banjul.

In the early hours of Tuesday 30 December 2014, a group of Gambia born dissidents of US and Western citizenship led an attack on State House.

After hours of fire exchanges, loyal forces took the upper hand and killed four of the attackers, including former State Guard Commander Lt. Colonel Lamin Sanneh

We want to know, who were behind the coup, who and which country’s  that supported  the coup, while he also urged  the commission to invite soldiers killed under ex-president Yahya  Jammeh wives to allow them speaks out.

Jarju who appeared before the Truth Commission on Monday, said he could not describe what type of person the former President was after serving so closed to him for almost 15 years at State House.

“The former President (Jammeh) did not even know me,” said Staff Sgt. Jarju.

“I did not interact with him unless he talks to me which was very hard,” he added.

But still, he told the Commission that he was doing personal errands for the former President Yahya Jammeh who always entrusted him with his new vehicles in the convoy.

Jarju  to the commission  that  Bai Lowe, a former ‘jungler’, was the one who convinced him to move from the physical guard to become a convoy driver where he used to drive the former President Yahya Jammeh for eight years.

He also said that he would not know whether the former President controls the speed of the convoy as stated by witnesses who testified before the Truth Commission.

Meanwhile, the witness recounted a number of accidents that happened in the presidential convoy.
