NAMs ask Minister of Lands to shed light on Darsilameh border crisis

Lawmakers on Wednesday asked the Minister of Lands and Local Government to shed light on the Darsilameh border crisis which becomes a centre of crisis. The village lies between Gambia-Senegal.

The Minister, Musa Drammeh told lawmakers that “the joint national border commission of the Gambia and Senegal was to meet and discuss the implementation of the pre-demarcation roadmap activity but due to covid-19 pandemic this could not be possible.”

He said that his Ministry has given instruction to all local authorities to urge their communities to avoid confrontation and notify the deliberant authority of any situation that they may consider provocative.

He said they asked the Governor to meet the community and sensitise them, also said they have engaged the community at the Ministry in which they registered their grievances. He expressed that the military cross the other side of the border in to their village while training, chanting some provocative remarks.

“We have adequately briefed the presidency for a UN engagement with the authorities in the Republic of Senegal,” he added.

He went on that the Minister is aware, the Department of Physical Planning in collaboration with Banjul City Council are currently enforcing the development control regulation by stopping all unpermitted commercial development.
