A concern Gambian has blamed government for cancelling flights from United States, saying SN Brussels flight was allowed in to the country.

The man who spoke to The Voice on anonymity said “The Gambia government allowed the SN Brussels to land into the country on the 22nd June. And what we were made to understand was that the flight was allowed in to bring people including Gambians who were stranded in Europe back to the country, a decision we all happy and agreed to.”

He continued that he was made to understand that a flight due on 9th July from America to arrive in The Gambia on 10th July “but to everyone’s surprise (today) 1st July we got the announcement that the flight is cancelled.”

“What I want to know is that on what basis is The Gambia government allowing flights to bring in her citizens stranded in Europe and suspend other flights from America were the same Gambians are also stranded. And we have more Gambians stranded in America than in Europe.

He urged the government to be fair by allowing flights to bring in their citizens stranded outside the country rather than cancelling the flights.

According to him, the decision taken by the Gambia government to suspend a flight which supposes to be leaving the United States on July 9, 2020 and arrive in the country on the following day has the potential to discriminate in the rights of same citizens as Gambians hence government has allowed SN Brussels to make landing into the country last month.
