Outgoing AG says ex-president Jammeh will face justice someday

Abubacarr Tambadou, the outgoing Minister of Justice and Attorney General, has said the former president Yahya AJJ Jammeh will one day face justice for his crimes, telling APRC supporters to wake up from their dreams of Jammeh’s political comeback.

Baa Tambadou who resigned from his ministerial portfolio last week, as a result of his new top job at UN office, was speaking to journalists during his farewell press conference held in Banjul.

His resignation attracted mix reactions as some gave poured heroic congratulations on him while others criticised him of a failure.

“I am aware that my principled position on former President Jammeh has not endeared me to his supporters and sympathisers, and to them I say, Jammeh belongs to the past, so wake up from your dreams of a Jammeh political comeback and move on with your lives.

“He (Jammeh) has caused too much pain and suffering to the people of this country throughout his 22-year reign of terror as the TRRC keeps revealing,” he said.

Baa added: “He [Jammeh] has during this period destroyed the innocence and soul of Gambian society with sheered brutality of his crimes, and for this, he will be brought to account someday here or abroad. He will surely have his day in court.”
