NATCOM, others Boost MoBSE Communication Unit with over D1.4 million equipments

The Gambia National Commission for UNESCO in partnership with Islamic World Education Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and Muhammad Bin Salman Foundation (MisK) on Friday boosted MoBSE Communication Unit with equipment that would support The Gambia Education (MoBSE) TV.

The equipment according to the donors, will support the development and delivery of education content during Covid-19 pandemic period, thus also will empower and enhance the work of the staff at said unit.

In receiving the equipment from the donors on behalf of the MoBSE minister, Claudiana A. Cole, The Permanent Secretary (PS) at MoBSE, Louis Moses Mendy commended the donors for their timely donation.

According to PS Mendy, Covid-19 pandemic brought about new dimensions to the teaching and learning system, adding that MoBSE is doing its best to provide alternative measures into teaching and learning system.

“As a sector we are facing with challenges some of which include the dearth of digital equipment to support the development of and delivery of lessons,” PS Mendy informed donors.

The support he added will make profound impact in complementing the ministry’s efforts to develop and deliver lessons through multiple medium of teaching and learning currently underway.

He said ICESCO has been actively engage in providing technical support to MoBSE through the host of many virtual meetings and strategies thus had developed to support teaching and learning during the emergency period of the global pandemic of Covid-19.

PS Mendy revealed that the organization is providing The Gambia Education TV with free online resources available in English, French, Arabic and indigenous languages of The Gambia in a bid to support learning while you are staying at home.

On behalf the ministry, PS Mendy expressed his appreciation to the donors for coming to the aid of his ministry at a time when they are in need of such support.

For her part, the Principal Program officer at UNESCO The Gambia office, Maimuna Sidibeh informed MoBSE officials that the donors provided State-of-Art equipment and technology to The Gambia Education for an efficient and cost control production and broadcasting of the TV content.

The equipment Madam Sidibeh went on are complimentary to what The Gambia Education TV already have which she said the equipment are to be used for recordings, filming clips, programs, documentaries among others.

Madam Sidibeh advised the Communication Unit staff to handle the equipment with care while stressing that some of the equipment are delicate and fragile.

In another development but separate engagement, GRCS, MoH and UNFPA also on Friday donated PPEs to the ministry for onward distribution to schools in the country.
