GAP Leader condemns EU Homosexuality right comment

The Leader of the Gambia Action Party has condemned the recently same sex right statement made by the European Union Ambassador to The Gambia.

The EU delegation in the country over the Month has written on its officials Facebook page the beginning of campaign for the rights of those who choose to be gays and lesbians in the country adding that every Gambian should not be excluded from participating in the Gambian society that gay and lesbian Gambians are first and foremost.

In a press statement signed by the GAP Party leader Lamin Bojang has warned the European Union delegation into the country to stop any interference with the traditional and cultural values of the people living in the country adding that The Gambia is a civilize nation that no western culture can undermine.

“We live in a civilized world where people are governed sensibly. We in The Gambia noted this years ago that no authority, way of life, belief will be imposed on us by any organization or government without the will of Gambians. We are urged all international organizations operating in The Gambia to respect our cultures and accept us and our way of life,” The release stated.

The GAP press release further added that the homosexuality comments made by the EU representative in the country has contravened the distinguish position in the bilateral tights between the Gambia and European Union that The Gambia will not tolerate diplomats whose utterances will create confusion among the public.

“It is therefore important to remind the EU delegation that the comments on same sex rights in the Gambia have contravened the position in the bilateral tights between the Gambia and the EU. We want to remind the delegation that The Gambia will not tolerate fake diplomats whose utterances scratches old wounds. The statement by the EU has provoked anger that was dampened and silence from our national discourse,” it reads.

“We call on the government of the Gambia under the leadership of President Adama Barrow to remain committed to our beliefs and moral practices as no religious faith prohibits homosexuality talk less of ensuring that their rights are reserved. A GAP led country shall never accept the any authority to impose their will on Gambian people,” the stamen added.

We challenge the EU delegation to refrain from engaging the current accidental government on issues that will serve as a way for disaster. This is the more reasons why GAP will not relent to remove a government that mortgaged the sovereignty of the Gambian people to your Organization. Gambia, will not succumb to any western systems that contravene our religious, cultural and moral values,” The release Concluded.
