Barrow special adviser sounds pained over youth rejection of offloading work

A special adviser to Gambian president Adama Barrow sounded pained about the country’s youth for not come forward to offload some thousand bags of rice and sugar Gambia government covid-19 relief food packaged. He claimed that the youth were offered D6 per bag for the offloading.

The Gambia government starts the distribution of thousands of bags of rice and sugar for 84 per cent of vulnerable Gambian households aimed to ease the sufferings of people in the ongoing proclaimed 45 days of State of public health Emergency approved by the National Assembly amid of the coronavirus pandemic.

Henry Gomez who spoke to Star FM said: “What pains me is that, when the foodstuff was brought to the park, we called the youth and told them come and offload the bags [rice and sugar], and we will pay you D6 per bag, with a bag of rice and sugar.”

Mr Gomez, former Minister of Youth and Sports added: “But if you go to the park you only find Senegalese, Malians and Nigerians, which is pathetic.”

He said Gambians in Diaspora have been criticising President Barrow, adding “I believe today, when Gambian saw the food package, they would commend Adama Barrow,” but saying some might not if they disliking him.

According to him, despite the release of prisoners from serving jail term, reduction in fuel price by President Barrow ‘yet people cannot see his generosity.’
