Minister Tangara releases result of conducted investigations on Gambians in China

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad has disclosed his finding over the conducted investigations about the conditions and welfares of Gambians living China.

China has been making controversial headlines recent times in regards to the unsatisfactory treatment melted on Africans including Gambians living in the country. This also included testing and quarantine of Africans including Gambian nationals to forestall Covid-19 in Guangzhou, China.

Honorable Mamadou Tangara said his Ministry had conducted ‘enquiries’ over the issue. In his statement on Friday, the Ministry enquiries revealed that a male Gambian student and his spouse that were quarantined 9th April, 2020 have been released from the hotel and they are back at their residence.

The Minister added that “another male student who was quarantined in his dormitory on 11th April, 2020 was also released on 18th April, 2020. The Covid-19 test conducted on him was negative.”

He explained that Sunday, 19th April, 2020 a young Gambian male student was released after he had tested negative of Covid-19.

“Another male student was released on 21st April, 2020 after testing negative for Covid-19. In addition to that, 4 Gambian businessmen, one student and a spouse of one of the Gambian businessmen were also released from isolation in their residences Wednesday, 15th April 2020.  All of them had tested negative for Covid-19,” he explained.

He disclosed further that “additional information reaching his Ministry indicates that all Gambian students in Wuhan and other provinces commenced online classes since February 17th 2020.”

He assured Gambians that The Gambia Embassy in Beijing remains committed in assisting Gambian nationals in dealing with any challenges they may face. The Ministry therefore encouraged all Gambians in China to remain in constant contact with the Gambian Embassy in Beijing.
