Banjul Mayor preaches zero tolerance on street children amid Covid-19 pandemic

The Mayor of Banjul has called for mass sensitization campaign to end the unsafe roaming of children in the streets as school is currently closed amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Rohey Malick Lowe in her regular video Covid-19 sensitization platform said the called to have a zero tolerance of children in street is a fundamental right of every child to have a conducive environment to live with a dignify living condition

Seeing children occupying the street amid of coronavirus has prompted the council to organize a video campaign on Zero Tolerance of Children in the street campaign hence the schools are already close. These children, she said, are more vulnerable in the street with this virulent pandemic which knows no boundary.

“We want to see a zero tolerance of children on the street. We are saying this because we know schools have now closed and it is the children who will rush in the streets to play,”

She informed parent that “it is important we safe them from the coronavirus pandemic. Parents should be very vigilant to keep their children at home in order to prevent them from contacting the virus. We do not want to see any child leaving outside all children deserves to live with a parent and in a comfortable home.”

The Mayor explained that the declaration made by the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education on the closure of all schools in the country was mainly to prevent any possible spread of coronavirus in the schools due to their crowded nature.
