Ministry of Higher Education launches Over D5million online lesson project

The government of The Gambia through Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Tuesday pumped a tune of D5,960,140million (Five Million, Nine Hundred and Sixty Thousand, One Hundred and Forty  Dalasi) to online education meant to enable students of post-secondary institutions receive lectures online. This project is billed to start 28th April, 2020.

The online classes as an alternative for tertiary and higher education institutions project will go for a period of six months and the post-secondary institutions to benefit from it include University of The Gambia, Gambia College, Gambia Technical Training Institute, and Management Development Institute.

As informed, part of the money for the project will be used to purchase learning materials like laptops, data sim, paying adjunct [assistant] lecturers for students of the Institutions.

Speaking at press conference, the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Juldeh Ceesay, said despite the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic education has to move on as the Ministry is having financial proposition on paying 70 dalasi per student every month to the GSM companies.

Professor Peirre Gomez, Chairman of a Taskforce and Senior Lecturer at UTG disclosed that “each student will have access to watch Google shoot for Google classroom free and is unlimited for six good months.”

“The details of all the registered students are already sent to GSM companies so that they can have access to this Google class without any problem,” he added.

According to him, the earpiece system and Google shoot will help both the lectures and students in accessing Google classroom and this online class will help student have access to ask question [s] and record in case if they miss the online classes they can go over it again.”
