Guinea-Bissau nationals from The Gambia sent back by Senegalese police

Senegalese border police on Sunday night turned away ten Guinea-Bissau nationals from the Gambia who wanted to cross the border at the Seléty border post in southern Senegal,    learned from informed sources.

According to the sources, those individuals transported by motorcycle taxis were trying to cross Casamance clandestinely to return to their country.

But this was without taking into account the vigilance of the security forces at the Senegalese border, who are supported by a community mechanism set up by local authorities in the area.

Members of these vigilance committees say they are determined to prevent the scenario of Vélingara in Kolda region, where seven nationals of the locality brought the coronavirus while returning clandestinely from Liberia.

Moreover, it is this fact that has caused great concern in the area and has led local government officials to strengthen community vigilance to avoid any eventuality, said a source on the spot who pointed out that at the level of all villages bordering the Gambia, there are committees that monitor the situation.

These committees alerted the police who immediately intercepted the illegal immigrants and forced them to go back.

As for the Bissau-Guineans who wanted to cross the border, they were seven men, a woman and two children, who were assisted by young Senegalese motorcycle taxi drivers living in the area.

Ziguinchor region has had three cases of coronavirus since the virus entered Senegal. Two have been cured and released, after treatment at the Ziguinchor regional hospital.

One is an old émigré who returned from Spain and infected his wife.

As for the third case, a Frenchman, the health services said his condition was improving.

All people who have had contact with three positive cases have tested negative, which reassures the population that was panic-stricken when the virus was announced in the region. Source PANA PRESS
