NA PEC starts scrutinizing GIA report

National Assembly public enterprise committee on Wednesday started scrutinizing the 2018 report of Gambia International Airline.  And the country’s airline lamented 2017 and 2018 to have been a challenging year.

But Alagie Jawara who is a house committee member said the meeting importance is for the institution to tell them how much money has been kept in the country’s fund.

Lamin Cham GIA managing director said: “the year 2017 has witnessed a critical challenge that resulted to a below performance and compared to previous years, and 2018 was incorporated under the companies’ act of 1955 on January 23th 1996.”

According to him, Gambia International Airline commence on 1 March of 2017, adding that the company is mandated by its memorandum of association to engage in air transportation.

In the year on review Gambia International Airline engage in the following business, that include ground handling, cargo handling and travel agency business, hajj operation adding, “that the company faces huge financial losses, he said.

He said: “ the company went into a joint venture with Mauritania airlines and the it collapsed in 2014 due to political reasons, and 2018 review shows man power distribution by department and in 2018 Gambia International Airline has a staff total of (361) out of which (185) are in the operation department that is ground handling and cargo.”

Suwaibou Keita, Director of Gambia International Airline, also said the income of the year 2018 was 2, 98 million 2, 25 thousand and the cost of sale for 2018 is 1,50million 7hundred and 53 thousand.

Meanwhile, Omar K. Jallow, auditor of Gambia International Airline said, they have audited the financial statement of the Gambia International Airline and financial statement present fairly in all material respect and financial question of the entity and its financial performance for the year ended 2018.
