Gambia-Senegal boarder crisis: Gambia sends delegation to Senegal on talks

The President of the Gambia Adama Barrow on Wednesday sent a delegation including government officials to Senegal for discussions in resolving a recent border problem between the transport union of Senegal and the Gambia.

The four  government ministers that includes the trade minister, the interior minister, foreign affairs minister and including the works and infrastructure minster departed Banjul on Wednesday to Dakar to meet with the President of  Senegal and its transport unions to discuss in resolving the ongoing transport border tension between the two unions of Gambia and Senegal.

The Gambian ministers are expected to hold discussions with the delegation of the Senegalese transport unions and the government over the recent border standoff the between the two transport unions following last Friday denial of a commercial passenger bus belong to the Gambia transport service cooperation GTSC to enter the Karang border by the Senegalese transport union whilst prompting the Gambia transport union to also retaliate in stopping all Senegalese commercial vehicles from entering the Gambia.

Omar Ceesay, the President of the Gambia transport union has told The Voice of his union’s plan to retaliate in stopping all Senegalese commercial vehicles entering the Gambia stating if the ongoing discussion between two governments fails to bring positive result between two unions the Gambia transport he mentioned will put stop to all commercial vehicles coming from the Gambia.

“We are just waiting to see the outcome of the dialogue between governments of Senegal and the Gambia in resolving the transport standoff between the two unions this is because we will stop all the Senegalese commercial vehicles from entering the Gambia if any time they deny our vehicle from entering their country,” he said.
