Gunjur community demands justice for murdered Buba Jammeh

The councilor of Gunjur ward in Kombo South has called on the Government to strengthen more efforts in bringing to justice the killer of Buba Jammeh in last year’s land scuffle between villages of Berending of Gunjur.

Buba Jammeh was allegedly shot and killed at his orchard by one Buba Drammeh from Berending on Saturday 16th March 2019 in a communal land dispute which led scores of other people wounded.

Momodou Charreh Gibba, addressing the justice ministry in a letter made available to The Voice stated that it is always devastating and annoying as a community that any time their minds reflects on the murder of their brother and colleague Buba Jammeh by one Buba Drammeh during last year’s land scuffle between the two neighboring villages of Gunjur and Berending.

He added that impediment of justice for the murder of their native has continue to put pain on the entire community while urging the government to take a firm stance in resolving the pending land issue between two villages and as well take to trial those alleged of killing during the land fracas.

“On behalf of the community of Gunjur I write to draw the attention of your ministry once again to take a legal action against the killer of our beloved brother and colleague. We have patiently waited as people for long to see the resolve of the land dispute between the two villages.”He said.

He then further asked for the reinstatement of the community’s police station since it destruction by the alleged angry mobs of Gunjur after accusing station officers of accepting of bribes in returns for plots of lands in neighboring Berending.

“As we seek for justice on one hand, it is also imperative to restore presence of police coverage in Gunjur after a year of absent as result of last year land conflict between villages, “he said.
