Gov’t spokesman refutes arrest of 137, says only 125 arrested

The government spokesman has refuted reports that 137 people were arrested during and after the protest of banned Three Years Jotna, saying only 125 were arrested.

Ebrima Sankareh who was speaking to West Coast radio said: “the police have accounted for every single number of arrests made during the day of the protest and this has simply shown how improved the government is in handling the number of arrest and giving the actual figure to the public.”

He also denied the alleged firing of guns in the air by some triggered happy soldiers during the 3 Yrs Jotna protest alleging that such accusations photo-shopped from the social media has never happened during last month 3 Yrs Jotna protest also affirming that there was never a denial from the government the possibility of unlawful mishandled of some protestors by the police.

“I have never said that nothing went wrong on the part of the police during the protest day. What I said was this is a subject of investigation which can be investigated,” he said.

He added: “and there is also a human right commission which we contacted and were they feel there is need for investigation it could be investigated. However, I also know there were videos circulated of some soldiers firing gun amass. That were not a Gambian video people have to know that the internet is now sophisticated were a photo or video can be transplanted from a war zone to another part of peaceful world.”
