TRRC Youth and Children Unit Engages Brufut Youth on their mandates

The youth and children unit of Truth Reconciliation and Reparation Commission has outlined has been outlining their mandate over the weekend to youth and children in Brufut.

TRRC, a commission established by President Barrow’s government to investigate into human rights violations and atrocities committed under the 22-year rule of former president Yahya Jammeh.

Speaking at the event on Sunday in Brufut, Bubacarr Sambou the youth and children coordinator of TRRC said: “the unit is established to make sure the voice of the young people is capture in the work of TRRC.”

“When we have engagement like this, we tell them about the mandate of TRRC, the different unit of TRRC that helps in term of investigation, communications and other work that is done behind the scene before the public hearing”, he added.

We do go to school to engage student and also communities to engage the youth and where ever we always have a good turn-out as people rely want to engage with TRRC, he said.

He said that TRRC is not focusing on political issue adding that nothing will distract TRRC as they are focus on truth seeking by using the TRRC act.

Seedy Bojang, president of Brufut youth development association (BYDA) expressed delight about the work of TRRC by engaging the young people, while called on his fellow youth to engage themselves in national development.

Foday Kebbeh a participant commended TRRC for their work as the opinions of the people is very important especial the youth.

He urged the TRRC to continue their effort on public consultation to engage youth people as they are the backbone of any developing countries.
