First Lady Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow Gives D75,000 To First Borns of 2020

First borns of 2020 would grow up knowing that they were once visited by the country’s first lady after birth, as first lady Faoutmatta Bah Barrow gave them D75, 000 with baby clothes for emerging first born of 2020.

The babies totalled-six including three boys and three girls.

Each of the first-born baby’s received a cash amount of15,000 dalasi, which was sponsored by Gamtel/Gamcel while second born babies each received 10,000 dalasi, also sponsored by Karpowership in partnership with First Lady Foundation.

Oumie Bah of Yundum becomes the first lady to give birth to first born of 2020, a girl, who came at 12:40 weighing 3kg. Haddy Mendy of Sinchu Alagie gave birth to second baby, boy, who was delivered off at 1:50 weighing 4.5kg. Both babies were born at Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital.

At Serrekunda general hospital, Binta Jarssey from Sukuta came first to give birth to first-born, girl, and Binta Bojang of Wellingara came second, who gave birth to a baby boy.

At Bundung Maternal Hospital, Anamas Mendy also became first lady to give birth a twin but unfortunately one of the babies died after delivery. Her survived baby weighed 3.6kg. Sise Saho, who seconded her position delivered off a baby boy with a weigh of 3.68kg.

Speaking during a visit at Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, minister of health and social welfare, Dr Amadou Samateh expressed with delight as he thanked the donors for giving to the first borns of 2020.

“We cannot go without thanking the staff here. Come rain, come sunshine they are here. Irrespective of anything whether salaries are high, whether salaries are low, whether conditions are favourable, whether they are not favourable they are here for the good of humanity. We applaud them and we say a big thank you to them,” Dr Samateh commended heath workers.

He said: “what we want to reassure them that, nobody can pay people who care about the health of others adequately, salary is never enough only Almighty Allah can reward you and we pray for Allah’s reward for all of you.”

He described the gifts as a promise to the year, adding “a new year with new babies in such a way and supporting the families, I think it is something that we should applaud the first lady and her team for the intervention.”
