GFD starts two-day capacity building training

The Gambia Federation of Disable in collaboration with United Nation Development Program started two-day capacity building training for persons with disability.

It is aims to ensuring persons with disabilities are equip in terms of advocacy, leadership skills and project management.

Speaking at the event, Muhammed Krubally, chairman of the Gambia Federation of Disable said, the objective of the federation is to ensure that the capacity of people with disabilities through the disable people organization is build.

He lamented lack of resource in the federation, adding that there is absolute need for all DPOs to be able to manage resources and that should be done effectively.

He called for more capacity training for persons with disability, adding “if capacities are building, they will be able to give back to their members in the DPOs.”

Sulayman Jallow a representative of UNDP said as people with disabilities faces lot of issues and some of this issues are related to ignorance because people have negative perceptions on disability, adding “some people think that the people with disability are a course in the society and sometimes they are not allow to perform on their own and live.”

He noted that, as a federation, advocacy is important for them to be able to past messages and also to go down in the society to try and get required attitudinal changes.

“So that they can regard them as equal members of the society who are able to take part in the development of the country, it is not easy to be an organization, and that as a leader you meet people with different views, abilities, thoughts and different way of life,” he added.
