YCG Marks 15yr Anniversary with Cleaning Exercise

Yoruba Community in The Gambia on Saturday celebrated its 15years anniversary of existing with cleaning exercise Churchill Town to Tallinding.

Olusegun Mathew Ajibike, President of Yoruba Community in the Gambia, said the motives of the cleaning environment  is part of the program   to mark the15years celebration   known as OODUA Day, which is schedule  to take place  on the 22nd November 2019, at Handball Court independent stadium.

“It is an annual celebration where we celebrate Yoruba day in the Gambia. We conduct this cleaning   for the public to know we are rendering some assistance to our host country, by showing loyalty,” he said.

Secretary General Y CG, Princess Olusola Benjamin, described the cleaning exercise as something good, noting that they are staying in the Gambia and making a living.

“We should also contribute to the welfare of our host country The Gambia, and the cleaning is one of the thing we do”, she said.

She pointed out that, Churchill Town and Tallinding are part of the dirty areas people don’t give their attention to.

“That’s why we decided to clean those areas and we all know clean environment its part of good health”, she added.

Deacon Emmanuel Omorodion, Chairman of Edo State Union and head of Ethnic groups in the Gambia, described the exercise as a citizen’s duty, noting that Yoruba people in The Gambia have been doing this annually.

“We thanks   President Adama Barrow for given Nigerians the opportunity for us to join him in developing the Gambia”, calling on the government to bring back the “set –se-tal” that was taking place in the former regime.
