GYCC Trains 50 Young People On Market Linkages

The Gambia Youth Chamber of Commerce (GYCC) organizes two-day training for 50 young entrepreneurs on market linkages for startups to enable local supply for goods and services. Held at PIA hall, 8th and 9th October 2019.

GYCC is the voice of young entrepreneurships in the Gambia. The overall objective of this two-day training is to create the market linkages for Gambian start- up businesses to understand the basic standard requirements by the hoteliers, supermarkets and restaurants to enable local market supply for goods and services.

Speaking at the opening remark Baboucarr Kebbeh, Chief Executive Officer  of GYCC said the commitment of the Gambia Youth Chamber of Commerce (GYCC) develop, nurture and support the establishment of functional youth led micro enterprises, generate employment opportunities across the country.

He explained that they  are entrepreneurs that mobilize young African entrepreneurs in the Gambia to improve their lives and give them a voice.

‘’We create market space by organizing regional exhibitions, training, mentorship programs and soft skills to get them out their marginalized position for them to become successful’’ he said.

He pointed out that, GYCC in line with contemporary trends and global best practices, aims at fostering and facilitating the social inclusion.

Ismaila Sambou, Board President of GYCC disclosed that youth employment, Rural Development and youth irregular migration are top of Gambia’s agenda for micro, small and medium seize enterprises in the Gambia contribute approximately 20%   of the GDP.

He explained that, this two-day workshop seeks enhance participants of youths within the Tourism sector.

‘’Tourism is one of the vital and most important second to agriculture in the Gambia’’, he added.

He pointed out that, currently the tourism sector creates 36,000 jobs, but the GYCC is contributing towards achieving plans which targets for Tourism to generate employment which will increase to around 45,000 jobs by 2020.
