GNOC appoints Anthony Tabbal as Chef de Mission for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) has announced oneof it’sExecutive Committee Members, Anthony Tabbal as Chef de Mission of Team Gambia for next year’s summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Tabbal has served the Gambia National Olympic Committee since 2011, where he held the possition of GNOC Chairman of the marketing committee until 2016, and currently serves in the Executive Committee.

“I am absolutely honoured and proud to be chosen Chef de Mission for Team Gambia for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. This does not only come to me as an amazing opportunity to represent our country and NOC at the highest level, but also comes as an enormous and exciting challenge and responsibility. I am equaly eager to work with our NOC, ournational sports associations and other governing bodies to make sure that every athlete that qualifies into Team Gambia will be given the nesessary support to achieve their best performance in Tokyo next year“, Tabbal said.

Mr. Tabbal’s profound experience coupled with a trusting relationship with GNOC and National Sports Associations, and having held several leadership positions both in Gambian sports and the private sector, made him a great candidate to lead Team Gambia into Tokyo 2020.

Being a co-founder and current treasurer of the Gambia Golf Association, Mr. Tabbal has gathered broad knowledge, experience and insightacross the Gambian sports sector especially within sports administration and project management.Tabbal was co-chair of the organising committee, and tournament co-ordinator for the last four highly successful Gambia Open and Pro Am Golf tournaments.

He also actively participated and represented Gambia in R&A Working For Golf Siminars in St. Andrews, Scotlandboth in 2013 and 2017, and attended and actively participated in the IOC World Conference on Environment & Sports, Sochi, Russia 2013, where herecieved an IOC Diploma for outstanding environmental practices through sports.

Tony Tabbal as he is fondly known, has represented Gambia in multyple international amateaur golf competetions and professional sports fishing championships, which led to him being the only west african sports angler to be featured in the Prestigious National Geographic Channel‘s King Fishers series. He is also a face of golf and angling in the Gambia Tourism Board’s Destination Gambia Promotion Videos and recently featured in CNN’s Market Place Africa, April 2019 edition.

Mr. Tabbal’s commitment towards a Cleaner, Greener and more Sustainable Planet earned him The International SEED Awards in 2011 and the Energy Globe National Awards in 2015. Both awardsattribute to  his efforts in sustainable development strategies and innovations in environmental solutions systems within his businesses and the West Africa region.
