Senegal, Gambia to hold conference on peace, religious tolerant

The Senegalo-Gambia under the umbrella body of Hijas Islamic Organisation and the Christian Community will convened a conference on May 11, 2019 at Paradise suite Hotel.

The conference aims at promoting peace, religious tolerance and nurture harmonious coexistence between Muslims and Christians within the Senegambia sub-region.

It would also help to strengthen the bilateral relationship between The Gambia and Senegal.

Speaking at press conference convened yesterday at Alliance Francaise, Tombong Saidy the Program Coordinator said the main purpose of the Senegalo-Gambia Conference on Inter-Faith Relations in Senegambia is not only to strengthen the relationship between The Gambia and Senegal, but also to nurture. “This peaceful and harmonious coexistence that we highly value in these two countries, therefore, there is the need to preach to all and further enlighten the young ones how important religious tolerance is and by extension peace.”

Meanwhile, a press release issued by the joint partnership stated that the Senegalo-Gambia Conference on Inter-Faith Relations in Senegambia will be held this Saturday, 11th May 2019 at the PechaMi Hall, Paradise Suite Hotel.

“The Islamic Faith would be represented by Imam ChiekhTidiane Ali Cisse of Medina Bai Niass in Kaolack, Senegal and the Christian Faith would be represented by and Senegal and smoothen the relations between the two main religions in The Senegambia Sub-Region and encourage religious tolerance, but also to showcase that we have in Senegambia for the World to emulate us,” the release added.

Imam ChiekhTidiane Ali Cisse of Medina BaiNiass in Kaolack, Senegal and Rev Father Antony Gabisi of Catholic Diocese of Banjul, The Gambia, there will be statements from the Christian Council, Supreme Islamic Council, and the Executive Secretary of the Senegalo-Gambia Permanent Secretariat, The Ambassador of Senegal, the US Ambassador and the UN Resident Coordinator.
