Madam Awa Njie, former wife of late Lieutenant Abdoulie Dot Faal has said that Sanna Sabally the vice chairman of the Junta launched manhunt for women mourning their husbands in the aftermath of November 11, 1994 bloodbath of soldiers.
Mrs. Njie, who only had a baby boy with Lt Dot Faal, said that remark while testifying before the Truth Reconciliation and Reparation Commission on Wednesday.
“They said Sanna Sabally was going around arresting any woman with a bereavement cloth to mourn her husband,” she said.
Abdoulie Dot Faal was killed with other officers and soldiers on November 11, 1994 by the Junta members.
Mrs. Njie broke in tears as she was narrating the demise of her late husband, adding that she heard people saying that Dot Faal was buried alive.
Meanwhile, she said that Lieutenant Dot Faal used to chat with Sgt Fafa Nyang, Matarr Jobe, Abdoulie Trawally and one Baldeh, adding that Lt. Dot Faal, Sgt Fafa Nyang and Matarr Jobe were cousins from Balangharr.
She then stated that: “we were at the barracks and has prepared a dinner for them and he then asked me to prepare attaya (green tea). I told him there is no charcoal and he said to me to go to Benne Minteh and told him to give us some charcoal but when I arrived there I found that there was a blackout.”
She said that Dot Faal took his eight-month-old boy and held him tight on his chest before leaving the house.
She further added that: “When they said they were going to the field I later heard gun shots. Also around 5am some soldiers came to my house asking for the amour key. When the day break I was walking barefooted unnoticed and I walked towards the medic where I found Matarr Jobe who shouted at me to go back and gave me 10 dalasi.”
