Jawara’s Impounded Guns are Hunting Guns- Interior Minister

Ebrima Mballow, Minister of Interior in the Gambia has said that a ballistic expert has examined and confirmed that all the guns imported by Abubacarr Jawara the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GACH Group Company Limited are all hunting guns.

“Inspector General of Police granted Abubacarr Jawara            the CEO of GACH Group a license to import hunting guns and he imported these guns on January 2019.

“However, he [Jawara] included two pieces of magazine-fed semi-automatic guns, three cross-fire magazine-fed guns and eight pieces Sentinel F99T blank pistols that were not covered by the license. A ballistic expert did examine and confirmed that they are all hunting guns.”

He told the National Assembly Members during question and answers session in the parliament on 21st March, 2019.

Meanwhile, it can be recalled that Abubacarr Jawara, the CEO of GACH Group Security Company was issued a licensed by the Inspector General of Police to import hunting guns in the country but later on he was alleged for including some guns which are not meant for hunting animals as a result, they were impounded by the police which the police later says the matter is under investigation.

Hon. Bakary Camara, the National Assembly Member for Kiang Central question Minister Mballow whether the government intends to prosecute the owner and the CEO on any legal authorization.

In his respond, Hon Mballow informed the deputies that ballistic expert has examined and confirmed that all the guns he imported are hunting guns.
