Amid Cement Scarcity, Jah Oil Assures Gambians Availability of Cements

Following the shortage of cements in the country for the past two months, Jah Multi -Industrial Company Management had re-assured Gambians that the issues of shortage of Cements will now be the thing of the past in the Gambia.

During a press briefing held over the weekend at its cement factory office in Brikama, Mr. Sheriff Faye, the Operation Manager of Jah -Oil Multi-Industrial Company has reassuring the general public that its factory has the capacity to supply the entire country when it is in full operation.

He explained that the recent shortage on their end was a result of delays from the shipment due to harsh weather conditions in Europe.

He then added that at the time of this release, two vessels of cements have arrived in the Gambia. The Tiger Cements produced by Jah Multi Industry is 42.5grade cements sold in bags of 50kgs imported from Spain and Algeria and bagged in the Gambia.

He further indicated that as the largest cement producer in the Gambia, Jah Oil Multi Industry has the capacity to produce 4,200 bags an hour, 33,600 bags in 8hrs and 108,000bags in 24hrs.

According to him, the company is currently operating on 24 hours a day to meet the demands of the public with 15Metric ton vessels arriving every 10days; Jah Oil Multi Industry can produce close to 300,000 bags at full capacity.

He also stated that this is enough to supply the entire West Coast and Greater Banjul regions. He also disclosed that at the regional level, there are two outlets in Farafenni and Basse to meet the demands.  The cost of Tiger Cement remains at D250/ per bag at the factory and all Jah Oil outlets with a minimum purchase of 100bags.

Faye also said that Jah Oil Multi Industry is a Gambian owned based company that deals in cement production. The company was established in 2012 is a subsidiary of the Jah Group established in 2008 with Jah Oil as a brand of Petrol stations.

He then added that the company is one of the largest employees of Gambians in the private sector with 300 direct employees and 150 temporary staff.

“We are cognizant of the recent public outcry of the shortage of cements leading to the increased cost and we want to further reassure the general public of its step to mitigate the crisis by producing adequate cements to meet the demands of the entire populace,” he said.

He further stated that, Jah Multi Industries wishes to thank the general public for their patience and understanding and to further assure them of its stance to ensure that there is uninterrupted supply of cements locally and at the regional level to meet the public needs.

He revealed that currently, Jah Oil Company have two vessels at the Port Authority, the first vessel came with 15,000 Metric tones of powder cement, and the second one was 17,500 metric tones. He said the aim is to supply or stabilize the shortage of cements in this country.

He then said Jah Oil is selling the cement at the factory price of Two hundred and fifty Dalasi (D250.00) per bag, while at the outlets price is at Two hundred and sixty –five Dalasi (D265.00) per bag.
