Remains of December 30th State House Assailant s to be laid to rest today

The bodies of three fallen 30th December State house attackers, Lieutenant Colonel Lamin Sanneh, Sgt. Njaga Jange and Jaja Nyass will be laid to rest today at Kanifing Burial ground.

There will be recitations of the Holy Quran at Kanifing Estate Central Mosque to be led by Imam Baba Leigh.

They were handed over to their families at Justice Ministry Building in Banjul on 9 January, 2019.

The trio in 2014, attacked the State House with their colleagues to overthrew the dictatorial regime of the former President Yahya Jammeh who ruled The Gambia with an iron fist. They were killed and buried at unknown place at a thick bush in Foni.

Madi Jobarteh, a human right activist explained that in the fight against dictatorship Gambians of all walks of life and in various places and at various times contributed and sacrificed their time, family, resources, jobs, businesses, comfort, happiness and above all some gave their lives just to secure the freedom of Gambians to enjoy democracy!

“No one should have lost a property or job or farm or limb and much more a life if indeed former President Yaya Jammeh upheld the Constitution that he swore to defend as President,”

He added: “December 30 Heroes paid the highest price for freedom when they picked up arms to remove a government that had consistently, constantly and continuously abrogated the contract with the people by deliberately and purposefully transforming the institutions of the State into weapons of destruction against the sovereign citizens of this country”
