Lawmaker Urges Gov’t to Enforce Ant-Littering Law

Hon. Sunkari Badjie, the National Assembly Member for Foni Berefet has said that the government should enforce anti-littering law in order to put an end to indiscriminate dumping and to keep the country clean.

The lawmaker made the call in an exclusive interview with The Voice at the chambers of the National Assembly on Wednesday, adding that unless the authorities enforce the law against ant-littering -waste collection would be a nightmare in the country.

“But this law unfortunately would not be operational-unless we try to enforce it… waste collection would be a nightmare. We must change our attitudes and make sure those responsible for enforcing the law do their job correctly,” he said.

Waste collection and disposal has been a focal problem of the country for decades and since the current government came into power, many communities have demanded a shutdown to dumpsites at their various vicinities.

He described the continuous littering in the country as an environmental degradation, saying that it keeps the environment filthy and hazardous to the inhabitants.

However, for the well-being of the country, he urged the government to engage the public on any project about to be implemented.
