NCCE Sensitizes Sami in Democracy, others

National Council for Civic Education (NCCE) recently sensitized the communities of Sami District in the Central River Region about Democracy, Tolerance and Peaceful Coexistence.

Ansumana Yarbo senior civic education officer at NCCE made the presentation at a series of the meetings held in the district with the topic: “Democracy, Tolerance and Peaceful Coexistence”.

The outreach synergy according to our reporter who covered the event was organized by the National Council for Civic Education (NCCE) through the funding from the Government of The Gambia.

“Gambia belongs to all of us as Gambians and every Gambian wants something that would take the country into higher heights so you should totally disown disunity among yourselves,” Yarbo urged Sami communities.

According to Yarbo, democracy goes with principles adding that if anyone lacks those principles as a citizen, your awareness as a citizen also on how a country is Govern will be meaningless.

He therefore enjoin all Sami people despite their political and religious differences to always promote peace and stability in the country  stressing that without peace and stability theywill not gettheir freedom and liberty.

As Gambians he went on, we are misinterpreting the word “Democracy” thus this therefore will not yield any developmental aspirations for the country in anyaspect.

NCCE senior civic education officer Yarbo informed Sami communities that “Participatory Democracy” in nation starts from Village Development Committee (VDCs), Ward committees and central Government levels.

He explained the role betweenthe Area Councils and Central Government while arguing that nobody should see their Councilorbased on partisan politics.

“As long as you have an elected Councilor in your Ward, put aside politics when it comes to development because as a mature politicians they should not priotise their planned developments based on party politics,” Yarbo urged Ward Councilors.

He also called on the elders of Sami district to always discourage their young ones to stop misusing social media which he said will not help the country to achieve its goals and aspirations.

“As elders within our communities your words count a lot, this is why you should always preaches peace and stability before the communities in which you as elders  are part of because you have seen yesterday and today,” he said.

Yarbo appealed to Sami elders to also discourage their communities to do away with tribalism in any kind adding that tribalism has no room in our today’s Gambia.
