Lawmakers to decide on ‘SA’ bill today

The Lawmakers will today decide on a 1.128 billion dalasi Supplementary Appropriate Bill following yesterday adjournment over it due to lack of proper scrutiny.

On Tuesday, the bill was tabled by the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs seeking additional budget for the government to complete its 2018.

Last week the Lawmakers approved an estimated 2019 Budget which amounted to D25.28 billion.

The house committee on finance and public account was tasked to scrutinize the bill and report back to the preliminary, said it has not yet finished scrutinizing the report.

Speaking to the Lawmaker’s speaker, Mariama Jack-Denton said that the report was referred to the committee on finance and public account for further scrutiny which is yet to be finished its scrutinization.

“The committee met yesterday but unfortunately it could not complete its work. We decided to continue this morning but we discovered that they have a lot of issues to address as a result of that they cannot present the report to the preliminary, and I am sure that you will agree with me that the time was actually and relatively short, “she emphasized.

The government has announced 50% salary increment for government civil servants and 100% pension increment but reports has shown that about 47 per cent of Gambia’s revenue comes from grants and aid.

Trying to justify this increment, the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Mamury Njie, said that it is mainly attributed to changes in user charges and fees of government services coupled with performances in Project granted and budgeted.
