FSQA Boss Affirms Stance on ‘Best Water’

Zainab Jallow, Director General of Food Safety and Quality Authority, FSQA of The Gambia has said “there will be no let up on the ‘best water’ issue.”

On 15th November, 2018, FSQA of The Gambia has ordered for the removal of the BEST BOTTLED WATER from Gambian market from immediate effects amidst lack of meet hygienic requirement

Speaking to journalists, Jallow reaffirmed the Authority’s stance to ascertain the type of contaminant that is embedded with the ‘best water’.

Among the ongoing plans is to do just that: Samples will be sent to an accredited lab in Dakar overnight for examination and the results will be furnished to the public in due time.

She called on the public to desist from consuming ‘best water’ until further notice, urging also the business community to return the water to the point of purchase as a means of facilitating traceability and recall of the product.

She further revealed that the water was contaminated by a rusted pipe which was traced by food inspectors of the authority during a full audit exercise of the company, she however expressed hope that, the ongoing problem of contaminated best water will not be a safety issue but a quality issue, Meanwhile, the results of the tests will determine whether or not it’s a safety or quality issue
