The APRC Demand For Departure Of IEC Chair

The country’s political dispensation is getting more and more interesting with more developments coming from our political players, but the unprecedented and swift demands from the former ruling party now opposition APRC. Through its leader is another color that everyone should be on alert to see and wait ether such demand would be met or not.

Honorable Fa Bakary Tombong Jatta is on record in an interview with this medium calling for resignation of the Chairman of Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Alhaji Alieu Mamor Njai on grounds of what he called ‘lack of confidence and credibility’ for the chair to continue lead the country’s Electoral House.

He cited various issues as premise for his departure and such matters bordered on lack professionalism when the chairman alleged made an open expression of his delight over the defeat of APRC at 1st December 2016 Presidential election and the subsequent departure of former president Jammeh into exile.

For him, Alieu Mamor Njai made an open statement on GRTS about his delight over the APRC losing the cited election and that he is also happy that the former president left the country for exile, which according to him are reflection and confirmation of lack transparency, impartiality and professionalism on the part of the IEC Chairman, whose office should be impartial and transparent to stakeholders, including the APRC.

The other scores made by the current APRC leader centered on what he called ‘uncertified election results’ coming from the various electoral polls from the various on spot counting centers. He alleged this was applicable to most on spot counting centers as opposed to only Basse, where such allegations were made.

He also cited former president voluntarily accepted electoral defeat well before the actual results were official results were announced by  Chairman Njai, despite the fact that they the APRC support went against Jammeh accepting the defeat.
