The community of Bakalarr in Upper Nuimi in North Bank Region has demand road rehabilitation from the government to improve healthcare delivery and businesses.
This demand came following a bad road condition stretching between the highway and the village.
The road remains a greatest concern for the community as it connect to the communities of Bakalarr, Mademba Kunda, Nema Kunku, Prince and Medina Sidia for over 30 years, as it affects lives and livelihood of people. The calls were make recently during road rehabilitation works organized by the community and transporters to alleviate the suffering of peoples and ease transportation of sick patients to Essau District Hospital.
Speaking on the occasion Sukai Jarju Nominated Women Councilor at Kerewan Area Council has underscored the daunting challenges the community of Bakalarr and its surrounding villages faced during the last rainy season, as people find it difficult to connect to other places.
“The poor road condition over the years poised a biggest threat to human and their livelihood,” she said.
Madam Jarju commended Kerewan Area Council for providing fuel to facilitate the works and hailed the community for their unflinching support and cooperation to the communal works.
Kebba Darboe VDC chairman of Bakalarr reiterated that the poor condition of road remain a nightmare for the inhabitants especially during rainy season.
He noted that poor condition of road affects timely delivery of food stuff and non-food items by business community. VDC chairman noted that the area is muddy and the communities find it extreme difficult to address the plight and during rain the area is always flooded and the road become inaccessible.
Ismaila Sonko ambulance driver of community manage health center said there is need for government to construct roads linking from Buniadu via Albreda to Kuntair, noting that the current status affect referral of patients to Essau District Hospital.
He said due to road condition from Bakalarr, it has affected nonfunctioning of ambulance service, and their families have to hire transport for referral of patients.
Lamin Jallow chairperson of Upper Nuimi Youth Committee thanks the youths of Bakalarr for their support to the development aspiration of the peoples. He described the turnout of youths was highly appreciated.
