Gambian middle-distance runner Sam Pierre Gomez has set a new national record in the men’s 1,500m after clocking 3:46.82 at the Runners World Track Meeting 4 in the Netherlands.
Gomez achieved the feat on Friday, 7 August 2026, improving on the previous Gambian record of 3:49.59 set by Omar Jammeh on 4 August 2021.
The new mark represents an improvement of 2.77 seconds over the previous national record.
Gomez’s performance marks a significant milestone in his developing athletics career and places him among the leading Gambian middle-distance runners.
The achievement also adds to The Gambia’s growing presence on the international athletics scene and establishes a new national benchmark for future generations of athletes to pursue
