Kanifing Magistrates’ Court Monday transferred a murder case involving Buba Jallow to the Special Criminal Division of the High Court in Banjul after ruling that it lacked jurisdiction to try the offence.
Chief Inspector A. Bojang, representing the Inspector General of Police, filed an application under Section 72 of the Criminal Procedure Act, 2025, seeking the transfer of the case to the High Court.
Jallow, a resident of Latrikunda German who was not represented by a lawyer during his appearance before the court, is accused of murdering Ebrima Njie on 29 June 2026 at Latrikunda German.
According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly stabbed Njie in the upper back with a knife with malice aforethought, causing his death.
In his application, Chief Inspector Bojang argued that the magistrates’ court lacked jurisdiction to hear a capital offence such as murder.
Magistrate F.J. Camara granted the application and ordered that the case file be transferred to the Special Criminal Division of the High Court in Banjul for trial.
The court also ordered that the accused be remanded at Mile II Central Prison pending his appearance before the High Court on a date to be fixed.
