Fuel prices have increased in The Gambia, with the government approving new retail pump prices for petroleum products effective Tuesday.
Under the revised prices, petrol will sell at D109.80 per litre, diesel at D120 per litre and kerosene at D112.64 per litre.
The Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Mines attributed the adjustment mainly to continued increases in international crude oil and refined petroleum product prices.
It said ongoing conflict and instability in the Middle East, a key region for global energy supplies, had heightened uncertainty in international oil markets.
According to the ministry, the situation has raised concerns about possible disruptions to oil production, refining and the transportation of petroleum products.
The ministry noted that The Gambia relies heavily on imported petroleum products, making the country particularly vulnerable to fluctuations in international oil prices.
It acknowledged that the increase in fuel prices could put additional pressure on households, businesses and transport operators.
However, the government said the adjustment reflects prevailing international market conditions and is intended to ensure the continued availability of petroleum products in the country.
The ministry said the government would continue to monitor developments in the international oil market and take appropriate measures in line with the established petroleum pricing framework.
The new pump prices take effect from Sept. 1, 2026.
