The Gambia Civil Service Cooperative Credit Union (GCSCCU) has handed over 350 residential plots to its members at Kassa-Kunda in Kombo South District, West Coast Region, as part of its housing initiative for civil servants.
The plots were presented during a ceremony held on Saturday at the Gambia Civil Service Village in Kassa-Kunda. The land was handed over to the credit union by Cairasu Properties Investment Limited, a Gambian-owned real estate company, before being allocated to members.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the GCSCCU Board, Abdoulie Jafunneh, congratulated the beneficiaries and expressed hope that they would be able to develop the plots into permanent homes.
He also commended Cairasu Properties Investment Limited for delivering the plots on schedule, describing the timely handover as a demonstration of professionalism that would strengthen confidence among customers.
The General Manager of GCSCCU, Muhammed Kandeh, said the housing project was established to provide affordable residential land for Gambian civil servants.
He urged members to continue supporting the cooperative under its slogan, “Members Helping Members,” noting that every member is also a shareholder in the union.
Kandeh said the Kassa-Kunda project is the credit union’s second civil service village scheme, following an earlier project at Jambur where 90 plots were allocated to members during the 2020–2021 period.
He added that the union would continue collaborating with Cairasu Properties Investment Limited to expand housing opportunities for civil servants and encouraged non-members to join the cooperative to benefit from its services.
Former GCSCCU General Manager Abdoulie Jallow, who initiated the Kassa-Kunda project during his tenure, praised the board for securing the land and described the initiative as part of the union’s commitment to improving the welfare of its members beyond financial services.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the board for providing them with residential plots, describing the initiative as a significant contribution to improving access to affordable housing for civil servants.
