Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), Major General Ousman Gomez, says a border commission has been established to address disputes along some sections of the Gambia-Senegal border.
Gomez made the disclosure on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, during the first day of the second leg of his nationwide tour of military formations and deployments.
He was speaking at the GAF’s 4th Battalion in Kanilai, where he met residents and community representatives who raised concerns about the border, healthcare facilities and roads.
Responding to the concerns, Gomez said the commission was responsible for addressing disputes in some areas along the Gambia-Senegal border.
He urged communities in the affected areas to exercise patience while efforts to resolve the issues continue.
The CDS said concerns raised by residents regarding healthcare, roads and other development issues would be conveyed to the GAF High Command for consideration after the completion of his nationwide tour.
Gomez also called for stronger cooperation between civilians and security services, saying such collaboration was essential to maintaining peace and supporting national development.
With The Gambia preparing for the 2026 presidential election, the CDS urged citizens to prioritise national unity and place national interests above tribal considerations.
He said peace and stability were essential for sustainable development and encouraged communities to contribute to maintaining a peaceful environment.
The second leg of the CDS’s nationwide tour follows a one-week break after the completion of the first phase, during which he visited military formations and engaged with troops, community leaders and other stakeholders.
