Gambian champions Berewuleng Women’s FC secured a place in the semifinals of the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-A Qualifiers with a convincing 5-1 victory over Sierra Leone’s Mogbwemo Queens FC.
Sarah Jarju was the star of the match, scoring four goals to inspire Berewuleng to a comprehensive victory after their opening-day defeat.
Jarju opened the scoring in the 15th minute after being played through by Ellen Gomez.
Mogbwemo Queens were reduced to 10 players in the 37th minute when goalkeeper Godoui Larissa was sent off for bringing down Jarju just outside the penalty area.
Jarju doubled Berewuleng’s lead from the penalty spot in the 76th minute after Marie Prierra was brought down inside the box.
Mogbwemo Queens briefly threatened a comeback three minutes later when Marguérite Semedeton Ahouassou capitalised on a defensive error to reduce the deficit.
Berewuleng responded strongly, with Jarju completing her hat-trick in the 84th minute before turning provider for Gomez, who made it 4-1 moments later.
Jarju completed her remarkable performance in the sixth minute of stoppage time, scoring her fourth goal to seal a 5-1 victory and confirm Berewuleng’s place in the semifinals
