Two of 10 people arraigned before the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing a common nuisance have pleaded guilty and been remanded at Mile II Prison for mitigation and sentencing.
The remaining eight accused persons who denied the charge, were remanded in custody pending determination of their bail conditions.
The case was heard on Thursday before Principal Magistrate Sallah M’Bai.
Cadet Inspector M.A. Jallow appeared for the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and charged the 10 accused persons with common nuisance, contrary to Section 137(1) of the Criminal Offences Act 2025.
According to the particulars of the charge, Salim Cham, Bambo Sillah, Musa Trawally, Modou Y. Jallow, Dodou Nyang, Babou Cham, Yaya Saidy, Amat Jammeh, Haddy Ndure, Sirreh Jallow and Modou Lamin Jallow allegedly, on or about 24 August 2026, at Kololi Tavan in the Kanifing Municipality, unlawfully acted in a manner that caused danger or annoyance to members of the public or persons occupying property in the vicinity.
When the charge was read to the accused persons in languages they understood, Dodou Nyang and Babou Cham pleaded guilty, while the remaining eight denied the allegations.
A plea of not guilty was subsequently entered on behalf of those who denied liability.
The prosecution then applied for an adjournment to enable it to secure its first witness, PW1, to testify against the accused persons who pleaded not guilty.
In her ruling, Principal Magistrate M’Bai noted that the fifth and sixth accused persons had pleaded guilty and ordered that they be remanded at Mile II pending mitigation and sentencing.
The magistrate further ordered that the remaining eight accused persons be kept in custody pending determination of their bail conditions.
The case was adjourned to 9th September 2026 for continuation.
