Police have arrested a man in connection with the death of a 34-year-old woman following an alleged assault at Oxford Junction in Banjul.
According to a statement issued by the Gambia Police Force (GPF) on Tuesday, the incident occurred at about 10:00 p.m. on Monday, 17 August, during an alleged altercation.
The victim, identified as Isatou Elizabeth Mendy, allegedly collapsed after the assault and was rushed to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said they immediately launched an operation to locate the suspected assailant.
The GPF said Ousman Kone was subsequently arrested by the Joint Security Night Patrol Team at Arch 22 in Banjul. He is currently in police custody assisting investigators.
The police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding Mendy’s death are ongoing.
The GPF added that further information will be released as the investigation progresses.
