The Confederation of African Football (CAF) inspector who recently visited the Independence Stadium in Bakau was reportedly impressed by the facility during an inspection aimed at assessing its readiness to host international matches.
The development has raised hopes among Gambian football fans, who have been eagerly awaiting the stadium’s return to the list of venues approved to host international fixtures.
However, the stadium has not yet received official approval from CAF.
According to information obtained by The Voice, the CAF inspector expressed satisfaction with the current state of the facility during the inspection.
A source familiar with the assessment said the positive feedback suggests that the Independence Stadium has a strong chance of securing CAF approval.
Despite the encouraging assessment, the final decision rests with CAF, and no official approval can be confirmed until the continental football governing body formally communicates its verdict.
The development is nevertheless being viewed as a positive step towards restoring the Independence Stadium’s eligibility to host international football matches.
