Gambian winger Abubacarr Ceesay, popularly known as “Yanos”, has agreed to join Finnish champions KuPS on a permanent transfer from ESohna Football Academy, the academy announced.
The academy said a full agreement had been reached with the Veikkausliiga champions for the transfer of the highly-rated youngster, marking another milestone in its player development programme.
Ceesay is expected to sign a one-year contract with an option to extend, subject to successfully completing a medical examination and obtaining a work permit.
The move will see the young attacker begin his professional career in Finland’s top-flight Veikkausliiga, where he is expected to strengthen the reigning league champions.
Known for his pace, dribbling ability and direct attacking style, Ceesay will be hoping to establish himself quickly at one of Finland’s most successful clubs.
The transfer also has special significance for ESohna Football Academy, as KuPS is the former club of the academy’s Network Chief Executive Officer and former Gambia international midfielder, Ebrima Sohna.
Sohna enjoyed two spells with the Finnish club between 2012 and 2013, and from 2014 to 2016, where he made numerous appearances and established himself as a key player.
The academy described Ceesay’s move as another important achievement in its efforts to develop and expose young Gambian footballers to professional opportunities abroad.
