The TUI Care Foundation, in partnership with Ninki Nanka Encounters, has concluded a two-week master class on artificial intelligence (AI) video filmmaking for tourism stakeholders in The Gambia.
The training, held at Bakadaji Hotel in Kololi, brought together participants from the Institute of Travel and Tourism of The Gambia (ITTOG), Ebunjan Theatre, the Gambia Tourism Board (GTBoard), Janjanbureh representatives, and staff of Ninki Nanka Encounters, among others.
The programme focused on the use of AI in storytelling under the theme “The Art of AI Video Filmmaking – Crafting Authentic Local Narratives (The Ninki Nanka Mythology).”
It aimed to position artificial intelligence as a creative tool to support, rather than replace, human-centred storytelling rooted in local culture and heritage.
Participants were introduced to cinematic techniques and emerging AI-driven visual tools, culminating in the production of short films of at least 90 seconds inspired by local communities, culture, or destinations.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Co-founder of Ninki Nanka Encounters, Dr. Adama Bah, said the initiative was designed to expose tourism partners to new opportunities in digital storytelling and destination promotion.
He said the training was delivered under the guidance of trainer Efe Igori, adding that it strengthened participants’ capacity in AI-assisted film production.
Dr. Bah said nine participants successfully completed the programme, despite initial plans for ten trainees, and encouraged them to apply the skills gained within their respective institutions.
He also expressed appreciation to Bakadaji Hotel for providing the venue for the training.
The event concluded with screenings of the participants’ 90-second film projects based on the theme of the Ninki Nanka Trail.
