The excitement continues to build ahead of the much-anticipated TOLAC Wrestling Tournament as the Guinea Bissau national wrestling team officially arrived in The Gambia ahead of the regional competition scheduled to take place from the 15th to the 17th of May, 2026 at the Serekunda East Mini Stadium.
The arrival of the delegation marks another important milestone in preparations for the three-day wrestling championship, which is expected to bring together some of the finest traditional wrestlers and officials from across the sub-region under the spirit of unity, culture, and sporting excellence.
The Guinea Bissau contingent touched down at the Banjul International Airport to a warm reception from tournament officials and members of the local organizing committee. The team arrived in high spirits and expressed readiness to compete and showcase their strength, talent, and national pride during the highly anticipated event.
The TOLAC tournament is already generating massive excitement among wrestling lovers in The Gambia and beyond, with fans eagerly waiting to witness thrilling bouts and cultural displays that celebrate the rich tradition of African wrestling. The competition is also expected to strengthen sporting ties and friendship among ECOWAS member states while promoting youth engagement through sport.
Meanwhile, the first batch of referees appointed for the ECOWAS Wrestling Competition has also arrived in Banjul ahead of the start of the tournament. The officials are expected to undergo final technical preparations and coordination meetings before the commencement of the competition.
Their arrival highlights the seriousness and professionalism surrounding the event, as organizers continue to ensure that all technical and officiating standards are fully met for a successful tournament.
The Serekunda East Mini Stadium is expected to come alive from Thursday as athletes, officials, wrestling enthusiasts, and supporters gather to witness what promises to be an entertaining and historic wrestling festival in The Gambia.
