The National Assembly on Tuesday appeared before the Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) to present its 2022 Annual Activity Report, Audited Financial Statements and Management Letter, in what officials described as a commitment to transparency and accountability in public financial management.
The presentation was led by the Chairperson of the National Assembly Authority, Hon. Fabakary Tombong Jatta, who said the exercise reflected both a constitutional duty and the Assembly’s willingness to subject itself to the same level of scrutiny it demanded from other public institutions.
He told the Committee that Parliament, as the apex oversight body of the country, remained committed to ensuring accountability in the use of public resources, adding that no institution, including the National Assembly, was above scrutiny.
According to him, the submission of the reports demonstrates the Assembly’s commitment to good governance and responsible management of public funds.
The Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Kalipha MM Mbye, appearing as Accounting Officer of the National Assembly Service, also provided details on the management of resources during the 2022 fiscal year.
He explained that the Office of the Clerk managed several key institutional processes during the period, including the transition from the previous legislature, the induction of 58 newly elected and nominated Members, the reconstitution of parliamentary committees, and the facilitation of legislative business.
Mr. Mbye informed the Committee that despite operational pressures, the institution maintained financial discipline and adhered to relevant public financial management laws, including the Public Finance Act and Public Procurement Act.
He, however, acknowledged challenges such as increasing oversight responsibilities, budgetary constraints, and the financial demands of on-going digital transformation initiatives within the Assembly.
The FPAC is expected to continue its consideration of the National Assembly’s 2022 reports on Wednesday, 13 May 2026.
