Justice S.K Jobarteh of Banjul High Court Thursday 5th March, convicted and sentenced a Nigerian man to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of rapping a 7 year old girl.
The convict Moses Ukwai, was charged with counts of rape. On count one, Moses, was charged with, “rape” contrary to Section 3(1) (a) and punishable under Section 4(1) (bb) of the Sexual Offences Act, 2013. The particulars of offence alleged that, Moses Ukwai, sometime in April 2025, at Kunkujang Mariama in the West Coast Region and within the jurisdiction of the court under coercive circumstance, unlawfully engage in a sexual act with a seven year old (name withheld) by inserting his penis into her vagina, thereby committed an offence.
On count two, the convict was charged for, “rape” contrary to Section 3(1) (a) and punishable under Section 4(1)(bb) of the Sexual Offences Act, 2013. According to the particulars of offence, Moses Ukwai, sometime in April 2025, at Kunkujang Mariama in the West Coast Region and within the jurisdiction of the court, under coercive circumstances, unlawfully engage in a sexual act with an seven year old (name withheld) by inserting your penis into her vagina, thereby committed an offence.
Moses Ukwai, denied the charges against him, the prosecution called witnesses to prove their case. Moses was found guilty on count one raping the seven year old (name withheld) and on count two he was discharged
Justice Jobarteh, sentenced the convict Moses Ukwai to life imprisonment, on count one. The full testimony of the witnesses and sentencing will be out on Monday 9th March 2026.
