Africmed CEO Meets President Barrow, Pledges Stronger Partnership in Health Sector

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Africmed International Hospital, Dr. Omar Jagne, has reaffirmed his institution’s commitment to supporting national health development during a courtesy visit to President Adama Barrow at the State House.

Dr. Jagne, accompanied by senior staff, commended the President for what he described as landmark achievements in transforming The Gambia’s health sector. The visit also served to congratulate President Barrow on the country’s 61st Independence Anniversary and to offer prayers for his health, longevity, and prosperity during the holy month of Ramadan.

In his remarks, Dr. Jagne thanked the President for granting them the audience and praised his leadership, which he said has created a peaceful and enabling environment for private sector participation in national development. He highlighted progress in the health sector, including the construction and upgrading of hospitals, health centres, diagnostic facilities, and clinics nationwide, improvements in ambulance services, the graduation of medical students, and the employment of biomedical engineers to maintain modern equipment.

Acknowledging on-going challenges for private hospitals, Dr. Jagne cited the high costs of procuring and maintaining medical equipment and retaining specialised medical professionals. He assured President Barrow of Africmed’s continued commitment to complement government efforts in strengthening healthcare delivery. He also commended the Minister of Health for advancing sector reforms and reiterated Africmed’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the government.

Dr. Jagne invited the President to visit Africmed International Hospital to gain first-hand insight into the institution’s services.

For his part, President Barrow expressed appreciation for the visit, describing Africmed as a household name in The Gambia for its quality healthcare services. He praised Dr. Jagne for his professionalism and contribution to national development and encouraged the hospital’s leadership to continue investing in the sector while maintaining a cordial working relationship with the government.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening the country’s health system and acknowledged the pivotal role private institutions like Africmed play in achieving that
