A young man, Bubacarr Sowe, on Monday appeared before Magistrate Kanjura B. Sambou at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, where he denied a charge of possession of prohibited drugs.

Sowe is accused of being in possession of 98 grammes of cannabis sativa on 8 April 2025 at Farato, contrary to Section 35(2)(a) of the Drug Control (Amendment) Act 2014.

Chief Inspector M. Demba represented the Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEA).

When the charge was read and explained to him, the accused pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution applied for an adjournment to enable it to call its first prosecution witness, a request the court granted.

The case was adjourned to 31 March 2026 for continuation of hearing.

The court admitted the accused to bail in the sum of D200,000 with two Gambian sureties, who are required to deposit valid national identity cards with the court registrar and demonstrate sufficient means.
